As part of our celebration of Black History Month on Maui. This
production is a culmination of research into the life of Dr. King and, the willingness of a diverse group of talented people to come together in appreciation of his continuing impact on all of us. It was a difficult task to condense 40+ years into a 2 ½ hour musical history of the Civil Rights Movement. I chose songs that were particular favorites of Dr. King that gave him comfort, as he traveled the dangerous roads of Jericho with his wife Coretta Scott. I wrote this in answer to a desire to enhance community consciousness of our need to come together now, in these critical times and in our future. We must take steps to embrace non-violence and foster peaceful resolutions. In no way is my research final. But, by using the universal language of music we can create our own promise land. And so, I say to you, let us all embrace the spirit of the Dreamer.
